After reviewing Country/Folk/Americana for the first installments, we’re moving on to Electronic/Pop. This is a big umbrella, potentially covering anything from the bubblegum to the experimental. The influences these artists draw from vary widely, but they all have something in common: a knack for crafting earworms that feature at least a little bit of our friend, the synthesizer.

Today, July 17, 2020, I turn 28. In normal times, I’d be celebrating by heading out to the first night of the Deutschtown Music Festival, one of my favorite events of the summer, with my camera in tow. I’d be seeing and shooting so many great performances, catching up with friends and acquaintances, and embracing the sweltering humidity of a Pittsburgh July in the name of our fantastic local music scene.
But these aren’t normal times. For most of us, it’s the most challenging period of our lives.

Whatever else you can say about this decade, it’s never been easier to discover interesting musicians if you know where to look. And you can start looking right here in Pittsburgh.
For our city’s scene, this past decade was a turning point. The support for, interest in, and diversity of local music has absolutely exploded since 2010. In almost every genre you can think of (as blurred as those lines tend to be now), there are multiple talent-packed local acts making and performing great music.
